Tips for choosing a great staycation on a budget

Staycations are truly underrated. Yes, international travel is already popular and fashionable. Staycations, on the other hand, are quickly becoming the more popular trend. At least, that’s what I believe.

In honor of having a week off in the middle of the semester, I’ve chosen to take a small vacation, or should I say staycation. And I figured I might write a lovely little post about staycations on a budget.

It’s difficult to pick the ideal location for a brief staycation. There are numerous places in your own city, state, or country that you have yet to see. You’re so used to working and being stressed out that you seldom take time off.

What better time to do it than during a long bank holiday weekend or during reading week right after second semester starts?

Tip #1: Finding budget friendly accommodation

So you’ve decided on the perfect city for your staycation. Now you must select between a hotel and an Airbnb, whatever you like. However, it must be something within your financial means. This isn’t a full-length, all-inclusive resort vacation you usually go on. That’s for spring break or summer. You need to set aside all of those coins for those special occasions.

Choose a place that is in a wonderful location and has enough of natural light, coming from wide window or a balcony. When it comes to picking a hotel or Airbnb, location is crucial.

It has to be close to the city center or downtown, whichever terminology you prefer. It doesn’t have to be in the heart of downtown, but it should be within walking distance. It’s either a short walk or a short cab trip away.

Another crucial consideration while looking for a place to stay is to stick to a budget you’ve set for yourself.

Tip #2 Write up a travel itinerary

You must be well-organized. You must know what you are going to do on your trip. You can’t just sit in a hotel or an Airbnb for a staycation and do nothing. You must make arrangements to accomplish things such as sightseeing and exploring. If your intention is to stay inside your hotel or Airbnb, you can simply drag yourself back home.

Find out what the city is known for and include it in your sightseeing plan. Discover what activities you may partake in while you’re there. You should be alright as long as it is budget-friendly.

Tip #3 Pack necessities & essentials only

When packing your suitcase, keep in mind that it must be no larger than a compact 10 kg bag. You’re only going to be gone for three days. If you want to take something, but it doesn’t fit, you won’t be able to do so.

Pack some good outfits to wear, one pair of shoes that goes with everything, and other items that I’ll list in a drop-down bullet point list.

  • Make up
  • Jewelry
  • Skin care
  • Make up brushes
  • Underwear
  • Bras, if you’re a girl
  • Perfume (can be in the car) to smell nice
  • Body lotion
  • Travel size lotion for your face & hands
  • Electronics
  • Electronic chargers

Tip #4 Always take your photo ID

Never forget your photo ID when visiting another city or state. the laws vary from city to city and state to state. So you’ll have something to present if you’re stopped for something and asked for proof of identification.

Tip #5 Get a house sitter

Finding someone to house sit for you is important. Ask a trusted friend to help you out especially if they owe you any favors. This is one favour to call in now. If you do not have anything set up to offset any robberies happening in your home, this tip will come in handy. Especially if your where you live has a high volume of thieves roaming about nearby in your neighborhood.

Tip #5 Get a pet sitter

Again, it’s the same concept with your pet. If you cannot take your pet with you for whatever reason, call a friend to pet sit for you for free or for a low fee. And you also don’t want your pet stolen by thieves.

And finally, make sure you have lots of fun and take lots of pictures for the gram.
